SEVERAL DAYS EARLIER, I GOT PHONE CALL FROM MEDICAL EXAMINER INDICATING THAT CAUSE OF DEATH WOULD BE NOTED AS 'FATTY LIVER' (SEE EVENTS OF LAST QUARTER).

FEB       04   MIKE TYSON SENTENCED TO 1 YEAR IN MONTGOMERY CO (OUR COUNTY) JAIL FOR ASSAULTING MOTORISTS SUBSEQUENT TO A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT SEPT 1 ON ROCKVILLE PK. IF TYSON GOES TO JAIL, HE WILL BE UNABLE TO SEE THE PAROLE BOARD IN INDIANA, WHICH WILL VIOLATE A CONDITION OF PAROLE.

A 74 YR OLD MAN, APPARENTLY TROUBLED BY ADVERSE BUSINESS AND PERSONAL DEALINGS, SHOT AND KILLED CEO OF A STARTUP BIOTECH COMPANY (A 65 YR OLD) AT A BUSINESS MEETING. SHOWS THAT CHILDREN NEED TO SPEAK TO THEIR PARENTS (AND GRANDPARENTS) ABOUT GUN SAFETY.

JUL  04        M,B, & A (AND BEN GOLDSTEIN) LEAVE FOR NEWARK INTL AIRPORT ABOUT 1000am. G AND BEN TO GO TO ISRAEL. AFTER WAITING A BIT AT AIRPORT, M&A GO TO MORRISTOWN TO VISIT PAUL, JUDY AND TEDDY DROAR. M&A THE LEFT AT 1000pm. ARRIVED HOME AT ABOUT 300am JUL 5. BETH HAD TRIPLE LOCKED ALL DOORS. M&A HAD KEYS ONLY TO DOUBLE LOCKS. M WENT TO 7-11 AND CALLED REPEATEDLY SHOUTING INTO PHONE. BETH ANSWERED EVENTUALLY AND OPENED THE 3RD LOCK.
JUL  06        WASHINGTON AIRPORT AUTHORITY APPROVES A PLAN TO BUILD A 3MI SUBWAY MONORAIL AT DULLES AIRPORT. THE 3 MI RAIL WOULD COST ABOUT $900,000,000 AND TAKE 25 YEARS TO BUILD. THAT'S ABOUT $60,000 PER FOOT AND A RATE OF ABOUT 10' PER DAY OF CONSTRUCTION.

AUG  02-04     M, A AND BETH AT NAGS HEAD. WENT TO USUAL PLACES. ALSO WENT PARASAILING (M AT 1000 FEET - ROPE BROKE BEFORE BETH'S TURN) AND TO COROLLA LIGHT HOUSE (ABOUT 20 MILES NORTH OF NAGS HEAD). TRAFFIC NORTH OF NAGS HEAD IS AWFUL - BACKED UP ALMOST THE WHOLE WAY.
AUG  05        BETH IN AUTO ACCIDENT. NO INJURIES, NO PROPERTY DAMAGE. JUST BUMPER TO BUMPER. BETH WAS A LITTLE SCARED BECAUSE THE OTHER PEOPLE WERE POSTAL WORKERS.
AUG  06        M DREAMS HE IS A ZONING COMMISSIONER AND TURNED DOWN A REQUEST FOR A VARIANCE SO A DAY CARE CENTER WOULD BE BUILT ON THE POWER COMPANY PROPERTY ON POST OAK RD.

AUG  08        M & A IN BALTIMORE. VISITED MD SCIENCE MUSEUM AND THE VISIONARY ART MUSEUM IN COMPANY WITH I AND CHERYL. FORMER HAS GIANT SCREEN. LATTER HAS ODD BALL AMERICAN ART (E.G. CHAIRS AND STATUARY MADE ENTIRELY OF MATCHES.
AUG 1-7       MARK McGWIRE HITS 500TH HR. WADE BOGGS AND TONY GWINN GET 3000TH HITS, ALL IN SAME WEEK (ACTUALLY McGWIRE AND GWINN WERE ALMOST IN SAME GAME).
AUG  13        BETH DOWNTOWN VISITING OFFICES OF AIPAC (FOR POSSIBLE INTERNSHIP NEXT SUMMER). AMONG HER ADVENTURES WAS GETTING LOCKED IN THE STAIRWELL.
AUG  15-16     BETH AT DEWEY BEACH WITH FRIENDS. AMONG HER ADVENTURES WAS GETTING SUNBURNED BADLY. ONE OF HER FRIENDS SAID SHE WAS GETTING SKINNY. SURE ENOUGH, WHEN SHE GOT BACK SHE WEIGHED HERSELF AND REPORTED TO US THAT THE 10 LBS SHE HAD GAINED LAST YEAR (9/97-6/98) HAD ALL BEEN LOST BY 9/99 (POSSIBLY LUGGING 40 LBS OF BOOKS AROUND ALL YEAR ON CAMPUS HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT BUT ITS HARD TO BELIEVE SHE ONLY WEIGHS HERSELF ONCE A YEAR).
AUG  19        PICKED A GOOD SIZE, UNBLEMISHED, UNINFECTED, RED APPLE OFF THE GROUND TODAY. BECAUSE OF THE DROUGHT (I THINK), OUR FRONT YARD APPLE TREE HAS HAD LITTLE FUNGUS AND ALSO THE APPLES ARE SWEETER. THEY ACTUALLY TASTE AS GOOD AS STORE APPLES (ABOUT 90% ARE BLEMISHED, INFECTED, ETC.)
AUG  20        FIRST RAINOUT IN 2 YEARS AT CAMDEN YARDS (BALTIMORE). THIS IS ANOTHER INDICATION OF THE DROUGHT.

G SAYS (SERIOUSLY), "ISN'T THAT IT? (ACTUAL BUILDING IS FORMER ROBERT PEARY HIGH SCHOOL - TYPICAL RED BRICK UGLY). I TOLD THE STORY TO DENNIS BERMAN (GRANDSON OF PERSON FOR WHOM THE SCHOOL IS NOW NAMED) AND HE SAID, "WELL, THAT WAS THE ORIGINAL CONCEPT."

DEC  20        G RUNS OVER A CURB (ABOUT 1 MI FROM OUR HOUSE) BLOWING OUT ONE OF OUR TIRES (SAME TIRE INSTALLED IN SUMMER OF 98 AFTER A BLOWOTOUT ON BALTIMORE BELTWAY). I PUT ON THE SPARE, DROVE HOME AND DROVE TO G'S CLASSMATE'S HOUSE (G HAD A GROUP PROJECT).
DEC  22        B DRIVES TO BOWIE FOR TEACHING A CLASS AT THE BOWIE SYNAGOGUE. ON WAY BACK SHE TWICE HAS TO LEAVE THE FREEWAY BECAUSE OF MISSED EXITS (OR BEING FORCED TO EXIT INADVERTENTLY).
DEC  22        G COMPLAINS ABOUT A GUY IN SCHOOL WHO IS NASTY TO HIM. "SO WHAT!" I SAY. "BUT DAD, HE'S THE BEST PERSON TO COPY OFF OF WHEN YOU'RE HOMEWORK ISN'T DONE, AND I'VE LET HIM COPY OFF ME."
DEC  22        ANN MEETS WINNIE ZUKOR FOR SUPPER AND DRINKS. THEY MISCOMMUNICATE THE METROSTOP TO MEET AT.
DEC  23 - DEC 30 BETH IN NYC TO VISIT. LEAVES A DRESS IN BOROUGH PARK BUT GETS NEW SWEATPANTS (NOT AS GOOFY AS IT SOUNDS).
DEC  27        A GETS ME TO GO TO CIDERHOUSE RULES
DEC  28        G DRIVES IN DISTRICT. HE IS A BIT FREAKED OUT BY THE MANY PEOPLE WHO JUST PARK THEIR CARS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET AND BY THE SUDDEN STREET CHANGES FROM 2-WAY TO 1-WAY. HE ALSO WENT THROUGH ONE RED LIGHT AND BARELY STOPPED AT ANOTHER. WE HAD LUNCH AT L'Etoile, A NEW KOSHER FRENCH RESTAURANT (MEAT - BUT SUPER PASTRIES ANYWAY) NEAR DUPONT CIRCLE.
