JAN  03   ANN AND BETH HAVE ARGUMENT ON WHO WILL GET TO HAVE GIN (OUR CAT) SLEEP WITH THEM.

Real Computer Story - while I was out I had set my work computer to respond to all electronic messages with a return message that I was gone.  Another person down the hall had set his computer likewise, he had also set his computer to automatically forward electronic newsletters to me. So while both of us were gone and our machines turned off, our digitable shadows carried on quite a nice electronic conversation in the cyberspace of the file server. Who needs people or even computers?

BETH, WHO KNOW HAS POISEN IVY, HAD TO MAKE 2 ROUND TRIPS TO WORK WHEN HER BOSS DIDN'T REACH HER BY PHONE (STORE HAS NO PHONE YET). BETH LOCKS HERSELF IN BATHROOM (I HAD TAKEN OFF DOOR KNOB TO GO TO STORE AND GET COMPATIBLE ONE) JUST WHEN HER MUSIC FRIEND CAME OVER TO PLAY DUETS. THEN TV/VCR CONNECTION BREAKS - WE HAVEN'T UNPACKED VCR INSTRUCTIONS YET - CAN'T FIND THEM.
AUG  02   BETH'S WISDOM TOOTH EXTRACTION WENT FINE. SHE HAD VERY LITTLE PAIN, VERY LITTLE INFLAMATION. WITHIN 24 HOURS HER POISEN IVY HURT WORSE THAN HER MOUTH. ANOTHER GOOD THING. OUR 85 FORD PASSED THE EMISSION TEST. IT HAD FAILED BADLY IN DECEMBER - I WAS GIVEN 6 MONTHS TO FIX IT. I PUT SOME 'SLICK 50' IN THE GAS TWO WEEKS AGO, BEFORE THE EMISSION TEST I RAN THE ENGINE AT 80 MPH FOR SEVERAL EXTRA MILES (ON I-270) AND THEN, NOTICING THAT THE MOTOR WAS PURRING AT HIGH SPEED BUT IDLING ROUGH, I HAD THE EMISSION STATION DO THE DYNAMOMETER TEST INSTEAD OF THE STATIC IDLE TEST. THIS TIME IT PASSED EASILY.
AUG  05   ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO I HAD CALLED THE COUNTY STREET DEPARTMENT AND TOLD THEM THAT THERE WERE 2 POT HOLES IN THE STREET AT THE END OF MY DRIVEWAY. WHEN I CAME FROM WORK TODAY THEY WERE FIXED.
AUG  07   BUS THAT BETH TAKES TO WORK WAS RUNNING 20 MIN. LATE. THE BUS DRIVER ACKNOWLEDGED THE LATENESS AND TOLD HER SHE DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY AND GAVE HER A TRANSFER FOR THE TRIP HOME AS IF SHE HAD PAID.
AUG  07   TODD ZEILE OF PHILADELPHIA HAS 4 ERRORS IN A GAME (ACTUALLY AN 8 INNING GAME) BECOMING THE FIRST NL 1B MAN TO DO THIS SINCE FRED TENNY OF BOSTON DID IT ON JULY 12, 1905. SIX AL 1B MEN HAVE DONE IT THIS CENTURY.
AUG  08   MOUSE FOUND DEAD ON BACKYARD PATIO DECK. SPECULATE THE CAT BORED IT TO DEATH. MORE EXCITING, A TANKER TRUCK OVERTURNED ON THE OUTER LOOP OF THE BELTWAY IN BETHESDAY SPILLING 1,500 GALLONS OF GOOEY TAR ON THE ROAD, TIEING UP TRAFFIC FOR 4 HOURS AND BACKING UP CARS 10 MILES.
AUG  12   BETH SPENDS OVER 50 MINUTES WITH SEAMSTRESS DISCUSSING ALTERATIONS - FINAL COST OF CONSULT + ALTERATIONS = $27. FOR 3 DRESSES YET.  ALSO, SHE HAD HER FIRST 30 MIN. PARALLEL PARKING SESSION (I HAD TAKEN HER OUT ONCE BEFORE, BUT I GOT SEASICK AFTER A FEW MINUTES). I HUNG A MOSES-IN-CRADLE PLANT (GIVEN BY M'S MOM) IN BREAKFAST NOOK. BETH GAVE IT A LOOK AND SAID, "THIS PLANT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE IT BELONGS IN OUR HOUSE - IT'S TOO HEALTHY."
AUG  15   PICKED GEORGE UP FROM CAMP.
AUG  16   GEORGE HAS POISON IVY ON NECK.
AUG  17   BETH AT WORK (STORE SELLS BASIC SCHOOL SUPPLIES INCLUDING BACK PACKS) IS ASKED BY A MAN WITH AN ENGLISH ACCENT, "PARDON, BUT DO YOU KNOW WHERE I COULD OBTAIN A SATCHEL." BETH RESPONDED, "ENGLAND, I GUESS."
AUG  18   GEORGE'S NECK POISON IVY HEALING BUT HE NOW HAS IT ON HIS FACE, ALSO.
AUG  20-22 AT BEACH (M, ANN, GEORGE). WATER COLD. AIR COLD ON THE 21ST AND ONLY MODERATELY WARM ON 20TH, 22ND. WENT GO KARTING AND JET SKIING IN ADDITION TO SWIMMING.
AUG  20   OUR CAT (GINGER) DISAPPEARS. ALSO BETH LOSES NEW 5IN1 REMOTE CONTROL DEVICE.
AUG  22   FIRST DAY 90°F SINCE JULY 14. LONGEST EVER JULY-AUG PERIOD WITHOUT A 90°F DAY.  ONE OF THE LONGEST SUMMER PERIODS EVER (1979 HAD A LONGER PERIOD FROM JUNE 1 TO JULY 11).
AUG  23   A SIMILAR SUB 90°F DAY PERIOD ENDS IN NY CITY.  THERE WERE NO DAYS OF 90°F SINCE JUNE 1.
AUG  25   3 NEW HALF GALLONS OF MILK PURCHASED. BY THE TIME WE GOT HOME ALL 3 HAD GONE SOUR (SELL BY DATE WAS 8/29).
AUG  26   AT CAMDEN YARDS FOR ORIOLE GAME. BALT BEAT OAKLAND 12-11 IN 10 INNINGS.  HOME EARLY AM ON THE 27TH.
AUG  27   GEORGE BREAKS THE CABLE CONTROLLER. WE FIND THE 5IN1 REMOTE.
AUG  28   JIM WRIGHT, A SEATTLE MARINER FAN, LEANS OVER FENCE TO CATCH AN OTHERWISE PLAYABLE BALL HIT BY EDGAR MARTINEZ VS. NY. THE UMPIRE RULED IT A GROUND RULE DOUBLE ROBBING MARTINEZ OR A PROBABLY TRIPLE.  WRIGHT HAD DONE THE SAME THING TO MARINER MIKE BLOWERS ON JUNE 29, 1994 VS. DETROIT. BOTH TIMES, MARINER MANAGER LOU PINELLA PROTESTED THE UMPIRE'S DECISION SO HEATEDLY THAT HE WAS EJECTED FROM THE GAME, HOWEVER, IN 94 HE ALSO THREW A BASE AND WAS FINED. WRIGHT, INTERVIEWED ON TV, SAID HE CAUGHT THEM BELIEVING THEM TO BE HRs.
AUG  31   GEORGE TEARS SUIT PANTS. TO MY RECOLLECTION, THIS IS THE 3RD TIME IN A YEAR FOR THIS.

SEPT 09   G LOSES MATH BOOK (G'S FAULT).
SEPT 08-11 M IN BILOXI, MISSISSIPPI.
SEPT 11   BASEMENT FLOODED - WATER AND MUD - NOT SURE ABOUT HOW MUCH DAMAGE. AFTER TESTING THE SYSTEMS, ETC. THE PROBLEM PROBABLY CAME FROM A SIMULTANEOUS ELECTRICAL OUTAGE AND HEAVY RAIN DISABLING THE SUMP PUMP. THIS REMAINS A PROBABLY HOWEVER, SINCE THE ELECTRIC COMPANY CAN NOT VERIFY THAT THERE WAS AN OUTAGE.
SEPT 13   G CALLS FROM HOME.  HE IS WORRIED THAT HE MAY HAVE HAD TOO MUCH COFFEE (HE HAD A MILD CAFFEINE OVERDOSE EARLIER THIS SUMMER).  AFTER INQUIRY, I FOUND HE HAD ONLY TAKEN ABOUT 1.5 TEASPOONS OF AN INSTANT MIX AND TOLD HIM NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT. NOT EASILY REASSURED, G SAID, "BUT I HAD SUGAR IN THE COFFEE, TOO."
SEPT 15   BALTIMORE BREAKS ML RECORD FOR SEASON HRs (MARK PARENT'S 1ST HR AS AN ORIOLE WAS 241ST BREAKING THE NY YANKEE'S 1961 RECORD), TIE ML RECORD FOR MOST BACK TO BACK HRs IN A SEASON (16- HELD BY 77 BOSTON AND 82 MILWAUKEE) AND AL RECORD FOR LEAD OFF HRs (11 BY BRADY ANDERSON).
SEPT 17   G PROCLAIMS THAT HIS PROGRAMMABLE CALCULATOR (TI-82) DOESN'T WORK RIGHT - AMAZINGLY, I STILL HAVE THE SALES SLIP.
SEPT 19   G PROCLAIMS THAT HIS PROGRAMMABLE CALCULATOR NOW WORKS RIGHT. HE SAYS A FRIEND HAD A SOFTWARE VIRUS KILLER THAT FIXED IT.
SEPT 19   BETH HAS FIRST REHEARSAL FOR JCC ORCHESTRA - THEY ARE PLAYING SOME DIFFICULT BRAHMS AND TCHAIKOVSKY - SOMEWHAT TRAUMATIC.  ON THE WAY HOME WE PASSED A DEAD DEER (ABOUT 3 YR OLD BUCK) LAYING ON THE MONTROSE ROAD MEDIAN STRIP. SEVERAL WEEKS EARLIER THE COUNTY HAD ANNOUNCED IT MIGHT HAVE TO START A DEER HUNTING SEASON - GUESS THEY WERE RIGHT.

OCT  02   OPENED CHECKING ACCOUNT FOR BETH (DEPOSITED SOME OF HER PAYCHECKS FROM SUMMER). SINCE SHE IS 17, SHE CAN'T WRITE CHECKS WITHOUT MY SIGNATURE - MUCH TO HER DISGUST. LATER THAT DAY, AFTER BUYING SOME CONCRETE BLOCK AT THE HARDWARE STORE, WE WENT TO A NEARBY MALL TO GET SOME KITCHEN STUFF.  WHEN WE PARKED, I OPENED THE TRUNK TO INSPECT THE BLOCKS. OCT  13 M TO BETH - DEAR, YOU ARE WONDERFUL BUT THERE IS SOMETHING YOU ARE NOT DOING THAT YOU SHOULD DO.
B TO M    - IT'S NOT MY FAULT... UH WHAT IS IT?

DEC  09   MR. LARAH HENDERSON WAS SHOT WHILE WALKING NEAR HIS RESIDENCE (SE DC) ABOUT 900 PM.  THE PARAMEDICS ARRIVED ABOUT 920 PM AND HAD PLACED HIM IN AN AMBULANCE WHERE THEY WERE TREATING HIM.
